Garmin 2720
Being a premium GPS device it incorporates premium features as well. One of the features Garmin 2720 can legitimately boast about is the ‘text-to-speech” interface that announces streets and address. It has worked on its fellow model Garmin 2620. Some of the great features of this model are that it comes with fully loaded maps. It not only offers turn by turn directions but it also tells the name of the turns you take and the street names and addresses – so it is pretty safe for the driver because the driver need not have to lean forward to confirm the streets and addresses. It even alerts you of congested streets and traffic delays.
You can view the maps in convenient 3D perspective or traditional north up view or even top down track up view. You would be amazed to know that you can even get alerts on approaching custom Points of Interest or POIs also about safety cameras, school zones, lodging, restaurants, gas-stations etc. It is excellent when it comes to user friendliness. Comes with built-in antenna and provision for optional external antenna. Other built-in features include automatic photo sensors. You can operate it with remote control that is included in the kit. It also comes with easy to adjust dash mounting system that is included in the kit.
You can get quick guidelines on optimal distance calculations based on multiple destinations that you have entered. It is intelligent enough to avoid any specific street or area that you have specified and route your directions accordingly.
It is portable and ready to use unlike other GPS devices which expect you to load maps before use. All you have to do is open the box and it is ready to give you directions. It covers the United States , Canada and Puerto Rico .
Garmin 2720 Street Pilot kit is a comprehensive kit with all the needed accessories included not leaving too many things as optional accessories. The kit includes AC adapter for power supply, 12-volt cable, USB interface cable to connect to PC, protective cover, beanbag to mount, alphanumeric remote control, dash mount, owner’s manual and reference guide.
Garmin 2720 has its own operational deficiencies. One of the major problems is the recalculation of distances in spite of being on the right track. In the display you find yourself moving even while you are stationary. The interface seems to be slow too leading to non-accurate calculations leading to longer directions to your destination. The instructions or the announcer is most often confusing unless you learn to decipher it – sometimes turn right will only mean to keep to the right and turn left would only mean keep to the left. It gets tricky when you are driving on bridge 2720 can easily mistake you to be on the street under the bridge!!! You have to expect loss of signal if you are driving on a cloudy day.
